In February this year, it was officially announced that superstar Rajinikanth will team up with Karthik Subbaraj next and the project will be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, best known for producing Enthiran. On Thursday, the makers announced Sethupathi is indeed part of the project. In a tweet, SUN Pictures wrote: “We are happy to announce that for the first time, Vijay Sethupathi will be acting with superstar Rajini.”

With the yet-untitled project slated to go on the floors from June, rumours made the rounds that actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is most likely to play the antagonist. Reports emerged that when Subbaraj had gone to Mumbai to promote his latest release Mercury, he met Nawazuddin and pitched the story of his next project with Rajinikanth. Even before these reports could be officially verified, Nawazuddin’s manager clarified no such development took place. He even said that the makers didn’t even approach them in the first place. This rumour was followed by the reports that Vijay Sethupathi has been roped in to play the baddie.

Earlier, when the project was initially announced, a thrilled Subbaraj took to Twitter and wrote: “Really can’t express my happiness in words. My most treasured dream come true moment. Thanks a lot Thalaiva Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures.”

In his chat with Sun TV recently, Subbaraj had said directing Rajinikanth is the best moment of his life. “Even though I’ve made four films in my career so far, I grew fascinated towards cinema because of superstar Rajinikanth sir. To get to direct him is the best moment of my life.” He also sees collaborating with the superstar will come with its set of expectations and high responsibility. “I see it as an enjoyable challenge.”
