Justin Verlander pitched seven sharp innings, AL MVP Jose Altuve hit his first home run of the season and the Houston Astros beat the Angels 5-2 on Wednesday, ending Los Angeles' road winning streak at a team record-tying 11.

Albert Pujols connected off Verlander for his 619th career homer. Pujols has 2,994 hits.

Alex Bregman hit a three-run double and Jake Marisnick homered as Houston avoided a three-game sweep. The Angels also won 11 straight road games in 1988.

Nationals 15, Giants 2: Trea Turner got five hits, Matt Adams homered and drove in six runs, and Washington routed San Francisco to end a four-game skid. Andrew Stevenson had two doubles, two singles and four RBIs as Washington set season highs for runs and hits (18). Max Scherzer (5-1) struck out 10 in six innings.

Tigers 13-3, Pirates 10-8: Nicholas Castellanos had four hits and a key home run and Detroit used 20 hits to outslug Pittsburgh in the opener of a doubleheader. The Pirates took the nightcap with Jose Osuna hitting a homer and driving in three runs.

Mariners 4, White Sox 3: Mike Zunino homered and scored twice to back Seattle starter Felix Hernandez. Zunino doubled and scored in a two-run third and gave the Mariners a 4-3 lead with a solo drive to right in the sixth. Nelson Cruz added three hits and two RBIs.

Rockies 5, Padres 2: Jon Gray struck out 11 in six dominant innings and David Dahl lined a two-run triple, lifting Colorado past San Diego.

Braves 5, Reds 4: Ronald Acuna Jr. singled and scored the tying run in the eighth inning of his big league debut, and Atlanta beat Cincinnati. The 20-year-old Acuna became the youngest player in the majors. He went 1-for-5 and played left field. Ozzie Albies, the second-youngest player in the bigs at 21, homered for Atlanta.

Phillies 5, Diamondbacks 3: Aqron Altherr hit a go-ahead three-run homer, Jake Arrieta outpitched Zack Greinke and Philadelphia beat Arizona.

Rays 8, Orioles 4: Joey Wendle had three hits and two RBIs, Adeiny Hechavarria homered and Tampa Bay beat former teammate Alex Cobb and Baltimore. The game marked the MLB return of Jonny Venters following a six-year absence and four major elbow operations, including three Tommy John surgeries. The 33-year-old Rays lefty used four pitches to retire Chris Davis — the only batter he faced — on a grounder in the sixth inning.

Indians 4, Cubs 1: Francisco Lindor and Edwin Encarnacion hit sixth-inning home runs and Cleveland beat Chicago despite losing relief ace Andrew Miller to a left hamstring injury.

Marlins 8, Dodgers 6: J.T. Realmuto hit two homers and Miguel Rojas hit a three-run shot off losing pitcher Clayton Kershaw (1-4).

Rangers 4, Athletics 2: Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a go-ahead single in the fifth inning and Texas stopped Oakland's four-game winning streak.

Brewers 6, Royals 2: Milwaukee scored four runs in the fourth inning and won its eighth straight.
