There’s a New Ford Escort, But it Isn’t Heading to North America
There’s an all-new Ford Escort, but it will only be available in China.
The American automaker is showing off the new midsize sedan at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show, which will be sold alongside the current Focus hatchback and all-new Focus. Ford says the new Escort is designed specifically to cater for Chinese customers looking for great value, sophisticated design, interior roominess, and superior safety in a midsize car.
The Ford Escort nameplate was first introduced to the Chinese market in December 2014, and has since been well received. Over 800,000 units have been sold and now Ford looks to build on that success with the all-new model.
Customers can choose from two engine options, including the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine and an all-new 1.5-liter Ti-VCT engine that Ford says is lighter and stronger, delivering up to 16 percent greater fuel efficiency over the current model. Both engines come paired with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a new six-speed manual.
Additional new features on the Escort include power memory seats and power folding mirrors, complementing the eight-inch touchscreen connectivity system, rearview camera, auto on/off headlights, auto dimming rearview mirror, automatic rain sensing wipers, and keyless entry with push button start.
“With the Escort, we are offering great value to our customers in the midsize car segment in China,” said Nigel Harris, president, Changan Ford Automobile Company. “The new Escort delivers smart looks and premium features that are bound to excite and delight today’s trendy Chinese families.”
