Carter shares cheeky letter from young French fan

2018-04-26 10:02

Cape Town - Former All Blacks great Dan Carter has won plenty of adoring fans during his stint in France, but there are just some things the locals find tough to let go.

According to the Stuff website, as the 36-year-old looks to sign off in style - in the final of the European Champions Cup final with his Racing 92 side against Leinster in Bilbao on May 12 - he has shared on social media a cheeky letter received from a young French fan.

Translated, the letter reads:

"Thank you for having signed my ball. It's my first autograph. I am a fan of rugby. I even make my mother shout when I play with my little brothers in the corridors of our house. I know that you are leaving for Japan, I wish you all the best for the future. Remi."

Innocent enough, but it was the 'PS' part which Carter found hard not to like:

"PS: How much did New Zealand pay the referee in 2011? The question is from my papa; me, I always respect the decision of the referee."

Of course, that is in reference to the 2011 Rugby World Cup final in Auckland, where the All Blacks held on to beat France 8-7, and the French were left frustrated with the performance of South African referee Craig Joubert.

After next month's final, Carter, the three-time World Rugby Player of the Year, will head to Japan, having signed a two-year deal with the Kobe Steelers.
