Charging Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class communities, the Working President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee, Shivkumar Daharia and State President of Tribal Wing Shishupal Sori have demanded no changes in Constitution and for moving an Ordinance in Parliament to nullify the Supreme Court (SC) orders regarding amendment in SC/ST( prevention of atrocities) Act 1989.

The leader duo in a press conference held here at Congress Bhawan on Wednesday afternoon said as the orders of Supreme Court regarding amendment in said Act are effective since it was passed on March 20, 2018 and it is urgently needed that the Central government moves an Ordinance in the parliament.

The Congress leaders charged that BJP government at Centre as well as in the state was cheating the SC/ST community over the issue. “Union government as well as the BJP ruled state governments are pretending to be well wishers of deprived sections SC/ST, but their move to file revision petition in Supreme Court would not be enough”, they said.

The Act which is meant for immediate and stern action on atrocities against SC/ST persons could only be revived if an ordinance is moved in the parliament, the leaders stressed.

Commenting on the charges that there was misuse of the said Act, they said there was always possibility of misuse of rules and regulations framed, but it does not mean that amendments should be made on them.
