Gangster Raja walks out of jail

Gangster Sandeep alias Raja Acharya, who was recently granted bail by the Orissa High Court in connection with kidnapping of a city-based Jyote Motors employee in 2010, was released from the Jharpara jail here on Wednesday.

Raja was granted conditional bail on deposit of Rs 50,000 and two sureties by the High Court. The court has asked him to appear at the Lingaraj police station here every week. He has also been issued strict instructions to stay away from any kind of criminal or offensive activities.

DGP RP Sharma on Wednesday said Raja is a dangerous criminal. After his release from jail, there is threat to the lives of some people. The police would try to seek cancellation of his bail.

Earlier, Police Commissioner YB Khurania had made similar views and said the Commissionerate police would file a petition seeking cancellation of Raja’s bail after obtaining necessary documents from the High Court.

He had further said that after Raja’s release, his activities would be watched; and if any witness approaches police for protection, they would be provided security.
