Mumbai: Three members of a family, including two children, were critically injured after a cylinder blast on Tuesday morning. Chirag (12), Prachi (15) and their mother Minakshi (40) suffered severe burn injuries. The blast, caused by a gas leak, occurred at Rajpoot chawl behind Prabhat building at Shivaji Chowk, Dahisar (E).
Chirag, Prachi and Minakshi were at home when the cylinder exploded. Minakshi’s husband Sanjay Ravan (38) had left for work just half an hour prior to the incident. Subhash Patkar (47), who lives adjacent to Sanjay’s residence, was headed for work when the cylinder exploded and he sustained minor injuries on his left hand and neck.
Hearing a loud sound, Sanjay’s neighbours rushed outside. The fire brigade officials and the police received a phone call from the control room at 8.05 am. The explosion was so intense that tarpaulin sheets in the neighbourhood got ripped off. Minakshi has sustained 90 per cent burns, daughter Prachi 60 per cent and Chirag 70 per cent burn injuries. Patkar has been admitted to Shatabdi hospital. Chirag, Prachi and Minakshi have been admitted at the Burns Intensive Care Unit at Shatabdi Hospital in Borivali (E).
