Women cops, anti-child marriage activists felicitated

They campaigned extensively in several hamlets and helped bring a change

The Chittoor district police felicitated women constables attached to She-teams (women and juvenile wings) and anti-child marriage activists of Madanapalle division, in recognition of their services in extensively campaigning against child marriages and stopping the aberration in several hamlets, at a function held at District Police Training Centre here on Tuesday.

As many as one hundred women constables and volunteers of Rural Organisation for Poverty Eradication Services (ROPES) and Child Line 1098 had gathered at the venue. Girl students rescued by the volunteers and cops during child marriages who took part in the event, shared their experience and took an oath to intensify the campaign to protect girl children from child marriages.

Superintendent of Police SV Rajasekhar Babu along with Additional SP G.R. Radhika and Deputy SP K. Chowdeswari felicitated the gathering, honouring them with shawls and mementos.

On the occasion, the SP said the anti-child marriage activists were doing an excellent job towards eradicating the scourge of girl children. “Each and every student should join the campaign against child marriages and their cooperation would go a long way in eradicating the evil,” he said.

He appealed to the public to immediately bring to the notice of the police, any case of child marriage activity in their area.

P. Sree Latha, ROPES director thanked the Chittoor police administration for recognising the services of the activists and extending their help to the teams during their operations.
