Ramgarh: Two days after the Union government brought an ordinance to pave way for providing stringent punishment including death penalty for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12, a 40-year-old man, Manirul Ansari, allegedly attempted to
rape a five-year-old girl in Bongabar village under Kuju police station of
Ramgarh district late on Monday.
Police said the accused is a close relative of the minor girl and had entered the house knowing that her parents were not at home. Ansari was arrested after the girl’s father lodged an FIR with Ramgarh police.
The accused was caught by the girl’s neighbours after they heard her scream. The villagers beat up Ansari and later handed him over to Ramgarh police.
“We have sent the girl for a medical examination. The report will confirm whether she has been raped, following which, we shall decide whether to charge the accused with rape or not,” said Ramgarh SP A Vijayalakshmi.
The father told the police that his daughter was alone in house as he along with his wife had gone to attend a marriage in the same village. At this juncture, Ansari came to lure the child with chocolates and tried to rape her. The girl’s father alleged the girl sustained injuries in her private parts and suffered from bleeding.
Vijayalakshmi said, “The minor victim was sent to a government hospital in Ramgarh for a medical examination. We have lodged an FIR with Kuju police on the basis of a written complaint by the victim’s father under
POCSO Act and forwarded the accused to jail.”
