Here’s my (cheap) recommendation to those folks in charge of those “messy” schools in Westport (The Herald News, April 19, "Messy school grounds lead to budget question"). Hold a Wildcat Pride Day and have students, teachers, parents and anyone else who would like to volunteer show up with their rakes, clippers or whatever other tools might be necessary to get the job done.

Instead of “sponsoring a highway” you’ll be sponsoring your own school/second home/play area and you can take pride in the final results as well as save the taxpayers a few bucks in the process.

Messy schools are pretty much everywhere. I don’t believe anyone should have withheld their vote for the new Westport school just because some routine landscaping has gone unfinished. Let’s just work to get it done!
