Khammam RTC complex to be operational by October-end

To have a mall, cellar parking lot and restaurant

Civil work on the long-awaited new bus station here modelled on the lines of the ultra-modern bus terminals in major cities has gained momentum with the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) drawing up plans to operationalise the facility by October-end.

The space constraints at the existing four-decade-old bus stand in the heart of the town near the Traffic Police Station necessitated a new bus station with ample space and improved amenities for passengers.

The State government gave the administrative nod for construction of a new bus station in 7.5 acres at NSP camp adjoining the bypass road at an estimated cost of ₹25 crore in July last year.

The new bus station will have 30 platforms, with a plinth area of 85,640 sf.ft., and cellar parking area of 37,050 sf.ft.

Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar accompanied by the TSRTC officials and engineers concerned reviewed the ongoing initial phase of civil work at the site earmarked for the new bus station here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ajay said the new bus station will have modern amenities to serve the needs of the passengers and crew of the RTC buses.

A mall-cum-multiplex and restaurant will be constructed in about 2.5 acres on the premises of the new bus station in the Public-Private-Partnership mode.

He said the new bus station will be constructed in a fast-track mode to operationalise the facility by Dasara festival.
