Free training can open a window of opportunities, says Mayor

Throwing open the opportunity to learn their favourite sports to the students of municipal schools, city Mayor Koneru Sreedhar and in-charge commissioner D. Chandrasekhar kick-started the Summer Sports Campaign here on Tuesday.

The students who evinced interest in sports, athletics and yoga were selected for training in the one month campaign that will end on May 23. As many as 675 students have enrolled in various sports and games including Kabbadi, Volleyball, Throwball, Handball, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Ball badminton and athletics and yoga.

Arrangements in place

On the occasion, Mr. Sreedhar called upon the students to make the best use of the free training and come out as athletes. “Athletes excelling in sports and games are having best careers and job opportunities. You all should make use of the training and represent the civic body in State and national competitions,” he said.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said that the training camp was an opportunity for the participants to identify their talent and turn into professional athletes.

He said that all the arrangements for the camp at various schools were in place. At the inaugural function students of VMC, school students gave an impressive performance of Yoga and Mallakhamba.
