Hong Kong: Stocks open lower after Wall St drop

[HONG KONG] Hong Kong shares slipped in the first few minutes of trade on Wednesday, tracking sharp losses on Wall Street as investors fret over the prospect of a sharp rise in US interest rates.

The Hang Seng Index fell 0.49 per cent, or 149.38 points, to 30,486.86.

And the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.53 per cent, or 16.53 points, to 3,112.40, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, gave up 0.44 per cent, or 7.85 points, to 1,796.56.
