Market opens lower on weak global cues

Key benchmark indices were trading lower in early trade due to weak global cues. At 9:20 IST, the barometer index, the Sensex, was down 16.92 points or 0.05% at 34,599.72. The index was down 13.35 points or 0.13% at 10,601.

Among secondary barometers,the Mid-Cap index was down 0.06%, underperforming the Sensex. The Small-Cap index was up 0.04%, outperforming the Sensex.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was negative. On BSE, 627 shares fell and 546 shares rose. A total of 50 shares were unchanged.

Overseas, Asian shares fell across the board, following an overnight drop in US stocks. Rising US bond yields also worried investors.
