Ujjain: Atrocities against minors continue, 13-year-old raped in Jharda

Ujjain: In yet another incident of rape of a minor, a 13-year-old girl was raped and harassed by a person of her village in Jharda police station area on Monday. In her statement to Jharda police authorities, the girl said Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Bhadva village, under Jharda police station limit, had raped and harassed her at a lonely place between village Asadi and Bhadva.

According to her family members, the girl was travelling with Bhagwan Singh, who was returning to their village of residence on his bike, with the family’s consent, as the public vehicle in which she was supposed to travel lacked space. The victim alleged that accused took her to a lonely place and thrashed her after raping her.

When family members got to know of the incident, they went to Jharda police station with the girl, where they had to wait for hours before lodging the report against the accused, since the lady police official was not present at the station. Family members also accused the police of misbehaving with them.

The brother of the girl also charged the police of trying to protect the accused. He claimed that the police lodged a report only after the intervention of the media. According to Jharda police station an FIR was registered under Section 323,376,506 of IPC and 3/4 and 3/5 of the POCSO Act against the accused. The victim was sent to Government hospital in Mahidpur for a medical check up.
