Update: ABSA said just before noon on Wednesday that use of its online banking and app services had been restored. "You may, however, still experience some delays during this process. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this morning's technical challenges," it said.
ABSA said on Wednesday morning that its banking app and online banking channels were down.
In a tweet sent just before 08:00, the bank said its team was working on a fix. According to the website downdetector.co.za the downtime started at 07:31.
“Apologies in advance for the inconvenience this may cause. We thank you for your understanding and support,” it said.
By 09:50 the bank was still replying to users on Twitter by saying the channels were experiencing downtime.
"Our technicians are working on a solution. We will let you know as soon as we're up and running again," the bank tweeted to a user.
This is the second time this month that the bank's online and app banking channels were down.
On the morning of April 7 the bank's services went offline for a few hours.
