Unidentified woman's body found outside a village in Akbarpur

KANPUR: A woman’s blood-soaked dead body was found in Banjari Tala village in Akbarpur Kotwali police area of Kanpur Dehat district on Wednesday morning.
Police and Forensic team experts rushed to the spot and shifted the body to morgue for postmortem examination.

"We have shifted the body to mortuary for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of the woman's death besides whether she was sexually assaulted before being murdered," said a police officer.

The assailants apparently inflicted deep wounds on woman's face probably with sharp-edged weapons due to which she bled and succumbed on the spot, the police said. The police however are yet to identify the victim.

On Wednesday morning, some locals spotted the body and informed police control room which in turn apprised us about the crime, said station house officer of Akbarpur Kotwali, Rishikant Shukla.

Arvind, a daily-wage earner, and a resident of neighbouring Akbarpur pocket told TOI that the woman’s body was soaked in blood and was lying near the approach road in Banjarai Tala village.

He further said, "I was going towards Mati in search of work on Wednesday morning when I came across huge crowd in the Banjarai Tala village. Later, I was told by locals that a woman’s body had been found lying in the area."

"Villagers immediately apprised police Control room following which a police team along with forensic team was dispatched to the scene of crime. The police cordoned-off the area and her body was sent for postmortem examination after collecting vital evidences and samples from the crime scene," said SP Ratan Kant Pandey.

He said, the woman’s age could be between 24 and 28. Assailants inflicted deep wounds on her face apparently by sharp edged-weapons, he said.

"We are not sure if the victim was sexually assaulted before being killed. However, we are awaiting autopsy report which will shed more light on the same," he said.

The police said that they are unable to identify the victim.

"However, we have passed on the information regarding the recovery of a dead body of a woman to neighbouring police stations seeking missing persons' details, which could probably help us in ascertaining the identity of the deceased," said an official privy to the investigation. A case has been registered at Akbarpur Kotwali police station and further investigation is on in the matter.
