Youth surrenders

Three weeks after a 60-year-old woman was found dead in Sathyamangalam, a 20-year-old youth surrendered before the Sathyamangalam Village Administrative Officer here on Tuesday claiming that he had killed her.

Chandra of D.G. Pudur lost her husband and in the absence of children she was found roaming in the street near Venugopalasamy temple.

On April 6, her body was found in-between two cars in the area.

A special team led by Sathyamangalam DSP Palanisamy was on the lookout for the accused. On Tuesday, S. Azharuddin surrendered before the VAO claiming to have murdered the woman. He was handed over to the police.

Inquiries revealed that he was in love with a girl and later she refused to speak to him. Upset over it, he became an alcoholic.

On the fateful day, though he saw the girl, she refused to speak. When he was sitting at a bus stop, near the temple, the old woman abused him. He attacked her using a stone causing her death, he said.
