West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to China will help in promoting trade and bringing investments in the state, a Chinese diplomat said here on Wednesday.
"We are working on the details of the visit. I believe this will greatly promote trade in Bengal. We have been inviting her for the past 3-4 years. She will be going this year," said China's Consul General in Kolkata Ma Zhanwu.
He also said Chief Ministers from other Indian states would also visit China.
Emphasising on the importance of such visits to bring investments in the respective states, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, had visited China nine times to promote trade ties between China and the western state.
"Gujarat is a good example. Many Chinese companies are investing there. You need to go there and make sure that the government is there to help investors..I believe more Chinese companies come in (the state)," Ma said at an interactive session organised by Merchants Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Banerjee has said she would like to meet industrialists in Shanghai during her visit to China soon.
