Bhopal: Opposition Leader Ajay Singh attacks government on petrol price, MLA’s privilege and infrastructure contracts


Bhopal: Congress party opposes the hike in the petroleum products, but not going to stage any drama as done by the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the UPA government regime, said leader of opposition Ajay Singh in Bhopal on Tuesday. Recently the price of the petrol had reached to Rs 80 in the capital city and around the state.

During the UPA government regime when the costs of the petroleum products were increased, the BJP and other parties had raised the issue nationwide by holding demonstrations and dharna. The prise rise is pinching the pocket of common man; however the Congress party has no plans agitation against the hike.

He blamed the government for suppressing the voice of democracy and said that on March 21 the state government have issued the 34 point letters to the departments suggesting them not to give answer to the Vidhan Sabha questions. He alleged that the government is using the office of the speaker of assembly to violate the democratic values of the Vidhan Sabha.


“Issuance of the letter to forbid information to the representatives of the people is a clear violation of the MLA’s privilege rights”, he alleged. He also raised the question on the contract for the construction of a road and a bridge in Sidhi, where 25 people have lost their lives after a bus fell down from the bridge.

“The contract was given to GVR company for construction of 39 kilometres of the road and the bridge in Rs 109 crore, but the company refused to construct the bridge and Rs 6 crore was reduced from the amount, he added. “But few days later Madhya Pradesh road development corporation awarded a contract of bridge for Rs 28 crore to the same company.We demanded high level enquire into the matter,” he said. He alleged potholes on the bridge and absence of railing is the reason for the tragic accident and demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to families of deceased.
