Thomas Hudson Dunkerton, 91, of Wintergreen, Va. passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018. Born in Detroit, Mich. on May 26, 1926, he was a son of the late Orrun and Robina Leask Dunkerton. Tom worked in advertising and account management for Compton Advertising in New York City for 40 years. He volunteered his time and talents to many organizations including The United Way of New York and the Board of Education in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. But his real passion was using his gifts as an adviser to many para-church organizations. He was instrumental in founding Community Bible Church in Ossining, N.Y. and was president of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. In recent years Tom attended Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Tom was also a United States Army Air Corp veteran who had served at the close of World War II. He is survived by a son, Richard James Dunkerton of Laurel, Miss.; daughters, Robin Mentzer of Riverton, Conn. and Betsy Dunkerton of Nellysford, Va.; a sister, Gwen Pinkham of Lancaster, Pa.; 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherline Grimes Dunkerton; his second wife, Barbara Grimes Dunkerton; a son, Peter Taft Dunkerton; brothers, Nathaniel Dunkerton and Mark Dunkerton; sisters, Carolyn Hansen, June Duncan, and Joanne Nielsen; and a granddaughter, Emily Hope Dunkerton. The family will have a memorial service on Saturday, April 28, 2018, 1 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. All are welcome.
