Mumbai: BJP offers MLC ticket to son of ex-union minister of Congress


Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday declared two name of candidates for the biennial election for the post of Member of Legislative Council (MLC). One of them is Aniket Vijay Patil who is son of former union minister Vijay Naval Patil, senior Congress leader.

Patil will contest election from Nasik Teacher’s constituency. Apurva Hirey, sitting MLC will be retiring on July 7 from the constituency. He was elected as independent candidate. Kapil Patil is another member whose term will retire on the same day. He was elected from Mumbai Teacher’s constituency as member of Lok Bharati who later joined Janata Dal (United) led by Nitish Kumar.

Two members — Niranjan Davkhare of Nationalist Congres Party and Dr Deepak Sawant of Shiv Sena — will also retire on July 7. Davkhare represents Konkan Graduate constituency whereas Dr Sawant represents Mumbai Graduate Constituency.


BJP announced name of Anil Kumar Rajesing Deshmukh as candidate for Mumbai Teacher’s constituency and Aniket Patil will is candidate from Nasik constituency. Patil joined BJP two months back in Mumbai and got ticket from the party. He is from Amalner in Jalgaon district and heads educational institutions founded by his father and former congres minister Vijay Naval Patil.

The election for graduate and teacher’s constituency is yet to announce by the Election Commission of India. The biennial election for local authority have been announced and will held on May 21.
