Michael Gallup has never been one to sit around and watch the NFL draft.

The fact that his name will be called during it sometime this weekend doesn't change a thing for the former Colorado State standout.

"No. Noooooo," Gallup said. "You don't need to do that. That sounds boring. Props to everybody who goes ahead of me and after me. I've never sat down and just watched the draft. I'll probably watch the first two or three picks and I'll get tired of it."

For the Biletnikoff finalist and consensus All-American, there is nothing to stress outside of the allergies that hit him upon his arrival back in Georgia. The 100 catches for 1,413 yards and seven touchdowns, his work at the NFL Combine and his pro day, the individual meetings and workouts, those have set his path. He knows his name will be called. It may not be Thursday, when the league holds the first round. It could come Friday, when the second two rounds are held. Even the final day, when the last four rounds are held.

"Things are going to move forward either way," he said. "I'm just blessed to be in the position I'm in. I know I'll get drafted. Somebody is going to take a chance on me, and I'll be all right. All you have to do is get your foot in the door."

The situation is different for some of his teammates. Jake Bennett has received a draftable grade, but that won't bring about guarantees for a center who started 39 consecutive games, earning first-team all-Mountain West recognition. His grade is for the lower rounds, and there, anything can happen.

So he's prepared.

"I'm pretty much open minded. I've heard a lot of different stuff," the Bear Creek product said. "I'm hoping to be drafted, but I'm prepared to be undrafted and go earn a spot somewhere. I've talked to my agent a lot about that. If it comes down to free agency, one place may offer more money, but it may be a better fit somewhere else where I have a chance to play and have a better career.

"It's exciting, but I think I'm more ready to get it going and start actually working out somewhere."

There are a host of Rams hoping for a shot, with quarterback Nick Stevens, running back Dalyn Dawkins and tackle Zack Golditch having drawn interest from scouts. There is nothing surefire about that route, but it did work wonders for Shaquil Barrett.

Either way, Gallup notes, the journey will just be starting.

"You have your own pictures in your head of where you think you should go and where you want to go, but shoot, just to be drafted, that's a blessing itself," he said. "I can go in the second round, I could in the first round or I could go in the sixth or seventh round. The only difference is money, but shoot, you get on the team and get to play, you'll be just fine.

"It's going to be harder work. I want to be one of the best wide receivers, so there's always going to be work for me. I'm ready for it. I love to compete. It's not going to be new to me."

His plans are to hit up Zaxby's again, maybe daily. He'll hang out with friends and family, maybe play a little horse on the family court. Bennett will be working out the first two days, then he'll join family at his childhood home and he may turn on the draft then; he's always enjoyed watching names go by of people he knows or played against.

Not Gallup. He won't watch the TV until somebody tells him it's time.

"Hey, my phone will be on loud," he said. "I'll wait for the call."
