Citizens battle back for a draw

2018-04-25 23:13

Cape Town - Cape Town City avoided a second defeat in three games as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The visitors made a bright start and created the first clear-cut chance on the quarter-hour mark when Edmilson Dove steered Bradley Ralani's free-kick wide at the back post.

Polokwane were content to play on the counter as the team from the Mother City enjoyed the lion's share of possession. Roland Putsche forced a sharp save out of Ndlovu just after the half-hour mark following neat inter-play in the final third.

Ndlovu then thwarted Craig Martin on the volley in the 40th minute and those saves proved crucial as Bernard Molekwa's men broke the deadlock just before the interval. They won a free-kick which was delivered by Jabu Maluleke onto the head of Tshilo, who nodded past Sage Stephens.

City continued their dominance after the restart and tested Ndlovu on numerous occasions, while Stephens was called into action to keep out Rodney Ramagalela in a rare attack for the Limpopo outfit.

The equaliser deservedly arrived on 77 minutes when Mkhize received Ayanda Patosi's free-kick and drilled the ball into the back of the net.

Patosi drew another fine save out of Ndlovu from a free-kick as the Citizens pushed for a winner and the home keeper was on hand to deny Ralani late on after a solo run.
