Candidates vying for Alma Highland Fest Queen of Scots, Wee Queen titles

A new Alma Highland Festival Queen of Scots will be decided this weekend.

Vying for the title are 11 young women, aged 17 to 20, during the pageant at 7 p.m. on Saturday the Heritage Center for the Performing Arts on the Alma College campus, according to a news release. Tickets for the pageant are $5 at the door or available from any of the candidates.

Attendees of the pageant will have an opportunity to vote for Miss Congeniality of the Queen contestants as well as be entertained by Third Coast Steel.

The Queen will receive a $1,500 scholarship as well as the title. Two Court members will also be selected, each receiving $500. The Wee Queen will receive a $100 scholarship with a donation basket from area businesses in addition to her new title and crown.

The 2018 Queen of Scots, Court and Wee Queen of Scots will preside over the 51st annual Alma Highland Festival and Games hosted on the campus of Alma College over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27.

The Queen of Scots contestants are:

• Dominique Harrison, 19, daughter of John and Rozena Harrison of Ithaca, a first year student at Mid-Michigan Community College. Sponsored by Isabella Bank;

• Alynne Welch, 18, daughter of Terry and Ronnie Welch of Elwell, a senior at Alma High School. Sponsored by Screen and Stitch;
