Employee votes determine four charities to receive both monetary and volunteer contributions
With thousands of nonprofits located in the Twin Cities, choosing which organizations receive corporate dollars can be a challenging task. That’s why Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) doesn’t do it alone; they solicit input from employees. The votes for 2018 are in: Allianz Life will donate $100,000 to four local charities including the American Cancer Society, Animal Humane Society, HopeKids, and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – Minnesota Chapter. These organizations will each receive a donation of $25,000.
Over the past 16 years, Allianz Life has given more than $1.2 million to local charities through the Employee-Elected Charities program. The program gives employees a direct vote on where the company’s corporate giving dollars are distributed. To be nominated as an Employee-Elected Charity, 10 or more Allianz Life employees must have volunteered with the organization during the previous year. In addition to the monetary contribution, the company’s employees will volunteer time at one event held by each charity during the year.
Every year, Allianz Life provides each employee eight hours of paid time off to volunteer for the charity of their choice. In 2017, more than 1,500 employees contributed 16,080 volunteer hours, the equivalent of over $388,000 of in-kind donations.
