Mulvane — Circle lost a back-and-forth battle in game one at Mulvane Monday, as the Wildcats came out on top 12-8. The T-Birds fired up the offense in the first inning, when Taylor Lambert doubled, scoring Hunter Dreifort who had singled to center. CHS added two more in the top of the third before the Wildcats took over the lead scoring 5 in the bottom of that inning. Circle added one run each in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 5. However, the bottom dropped out for the T-Birds in the bottom of the 5th when Mulvane exploded for 7 runs.

Hunter Dreifort collected four hits in defeat. She singled in the first and third, tripled in the fifth, and singled again in the seventh.

“Mulvane came into the game swinging their bats better than we did,” said T-Bird Coach Jean Gibbs. “They’re an aggressive, solid team.”

Sydney Herbert took the loss for Circle. She surrendered 12 runs on 13 hits over six innings. Circle tallied 10 hits in the game, led by Dreifort’s four and Lambert’s three. Sydney Herbert, Jessie Nibarger and Cheyenne Collins each added one hit apiece.

In the second game, Circle stepped up defensively to defeat the Wildcats 8-1. The T-Birds struck first in the top of the third when Lambert’s single to center scored Collins who had reached on a fielder’s choice.  They added another run in the top of the fifth when Lambert’s double scored Collins again, who had reached on an error. Circle’s big inning was the sixth when they added four more runs as Ingrim, Hammer, Dreifort and Lambert all had RBIs.

Mulvane put up their lone run in the bottom of the sixth before Circle added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Nibarger and Mia Herbert both scored runs. In all, Circle racked up eight hits in the game led by Lambert who was 3-4 with 2 RBIs.  

Londyn Bardin got the win for Circle. She allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight. Gibbs knew the importance of picking up the win in game two.

“Beating Mulvane in the nightcap to split with them was vital,” said Gibbs.

“London (Bardin) struck out eight of 21 outs and did great in the circle. We did a good job at the plate with some timely hitting with runners in scoring position.”

Circle is now 9-4 on the season, and will host McPherson Thursday in an AVCTL Div. III doubleheader.
