All 11 primary S&P 500 sectors trade lower

U.S. stocks fell Wednesday morning, with major indexes erasing their slight early gains to turn decisively lower in a broad decline. All 11 of the primary S&P 500 sectors were down in early trading, with energy and industrial shares among the biggest percentage losers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4% while the S&P 500 was off 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.5%. Recent trading has been pressured in part by a rise in the yield for the U.S. 10-year Treasury note, which could mean it becomes more expensive for companies to borrow money, thereby eroding profits. The yield is currently at a four-year high. Among specific stocks, Boeing Co rose 0.8% after its quarterly results. While the planemaker provided an early lift to the Dow, it subsequently retreated from its early gains.
