Delhi Metro Rail Corporation parking rates go up by 50%
NEW DELHI: After hiked Delhi Metro fare, now get prepared to shell out more for parking your car or two wheeler at metro’s parking lots too. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to increase parking charges by Rs. 2 to Rs. 20 across different slabs, effective from May 1.
The parking charges will be going up after a gap of five years and in most slabs, the increase is that of 50%.

Those parking their cars at Delhi Metro’s parking lots will now have to pay Rs. 30 instead of Rs. 20 for up to six hours. Those parking their cars for beyond six hours and up to 12 hours will have to pay Rs. 50 instead of Rs. 30 and those parking beyond 12 hours will have to pay Rs. 60 instead of Rs. 40. Night charges for parking between midnight and 5 am have been hiked from Rs. 40 to Rs. 60.

DMRC has increased monthly parking charges for cars from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,200 and users would have to pay double this amount if they are parking at night also.

The parking rates for two wheelers have been hiked to Rs. 15 from the present Rs. 10 for parking up to six hours, Rs. 25 from Rs. 15 for parking up to 12 hours and Rs. 30 from Rs. 20 for parking beyond 12 hours. The monthly charges for parking two wheelers have been increased from Rs. 475 to Rs. 600, while users would have to pay double this amount for parking at night for a month. The night charges have been hiked from Rs. 20 to Rs. 30.

Cycle users have to now pay Rs. 5 instead of Rs. 3 for parking up to six hours, Rs. 5 instead of Rs. 4 for parking up to 12 hours and Rs. 10 instead of Rs. 5 for parking beyond 12 hours. The night charges for parking cycles have increased from Rs. Five to Rs. 10 and the monthly charges have been hiked from Rs. 45 to Rs. 70.

The last time DMRC had hiked its parking rates was in March 1, 2013 and the revised parking rates would come into effect from May 1, 2018.

“The Metro parking charges have not been changed for the last five years and the current charges are very much lower than the parking charges being levied by civic agencies for their parking lots,” said a DMRC spokesperson. “It is therefore necessary to rationalize the Metro parking charges in view of higher charges by the Civic agencies. Accordingly, it has been decided to revise the parking charges with effect from May 1, 2018,” he said.

“Parking charges after the revision will also still be on lower side as compared to the charges being levied by Civic agencies,” the spokesperson said.
