FALL RIVER - Police arrested five men who are accused of trying to pay undercover officers for sex during a recent "John" sting in Fall River.

The Fall River Police Department's Major Crimes, Vice and Intelligence, and Special Operations divisions conducted the joint sting last Friday at two locations: the corner of South Main and Park streets, and the corner of North Main and Pine streets.

Police said they carried out the sting from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday in response to several complaints from residents and local businesses about prostitution activity. Police in the past have arrested numerous alleged prostitutes and Johns at those locations, according to court documents.

The arrest reports from the recent John sting allege that the Fall River men who were arrested had approached undercover female police officers and offered to pay them money or give them drugs for sexual acts. After an agreement was made, backup police officers were notified and arrested the suspects, according to court documents.

Those who were arrested and charged with paying for sexual conduct include:

Jaime A. Borges, 48, of 556 Hicks St., Fall River; Jacinto Ferreira, 54, of 207 Sterling St., Fall River; Saul E. Valadez, 21, of 93 Fenner St., Fall River; Jason M. Aguiar, 45, of 219 Mulberry St., Fall River; Jacob Abanto Rojas, 54, of 338 East Main St., Fall River.

Except for Aguiar, each defendant was released on personal recognizance and ordered to return for pretrial hearings after being arraigned Monday at Fall River District Court. A default warrant was issued for Aguiar's arrest for missing his arraignment, according to court records.
