BJP for CBI probe into Sreejith’s death

Party to take out march to office of IGP

The BJP will take out a long march from Varappuzha to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) seeking CBI probe into the death of S.R. Sreejith following alleged custodial torture.

The march, to be taken out on March 26, will be attended by State leaders of the party.

BJP State secretary B. Gopalakrishnan told the media that the investigation officers were attempting to shield the key accused in the case. Since policemen were arrested in the case, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who held the Home portfolio, should quit, he said.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan alleged that the district leaders of the CPI(M) were involved in the case. He expressed apprehension that the police could not hold an impartial inquiry into the incident. Besides, CPI(M) leaders have not cared to visit the house of the deceased, he said.

The BJP leader demanded that Sreejith’s wife be offered a government job and the educational expenses of their child be borne by the State government. “The family should be provided ₹10 lakh as compensation,” he said. BJP district president M.K. Mohandas was present.
