Rafael Nadal backs Novak Djokovic to make Barcelona Open impact
RAFAEL NADAL believes Novak Djokovic has made the right decision to take a wildcard into this week’s Barcelona Open.
Djokovic has had a difficult 2018 as he attempts to climb back up the rankings after an injury-hit 12 months.
Last week, Djokovic reached the third round in Monte Carlo before being beaten by Dominic Thiem and, to get more competition ahead of the French Open, he accepted a wild card into the Barcelona Open.
The Serbian, who last played in Barcelona in 2006, is projected to meet Nadal in the quarter-finals.
But Nadal, who has won in Barcelona 10 times, reckons Djokovic is right to play after little on-court action this year.

I knew that it was a possibility that Novak would come after a relatively short time competing, I would have done the same in his place
“I knew that it was a possibility that Novak would come after a relatively short time competing, I would have done the same in his place,” he said.
“It's good news for Barcelona and for the tournament that one of the best in history will be here.
“The spectators will thank you and for his opponents, it is bad news.”
For Djokovic, he is hopeful of continuing the form he showed in Monte Carlo.

“I'm feeling like it's been getting better every day,” Djokovic said.
“I’ve had three matches here. I didn't expect anything. I played without pain in the elbow, which is important.
“I have my coach Marian [Vajda] back in the box. So lot of good things.
“I look forward to building more confidence on the court, to get my game on a desired level.”
