SAMBALPUR: A 15-year-old boy allegedly raped a five-year-old girl in
Ghudkatikra under Burla police station limits in the district on Monday.
The matter came to light after the parents of the rape survivor lodged a case with Burla police station on Tuesday. Police have arrested the accused teenager. While the accused is a school dropout, the girl is a student of Class I. She is the eighth minor to have allegedly been raped in the state in April.
Reports said the accused is a neighbour of the girl. The mother of the girl and the mother of the accused had gone to the market on Monday morning when the incident occurred. The girl's mother had left her child in the house of the accused so that both could watch television together.
SP (
Sambalpur) Sanjeev Arora said a case has been registered in this connection. "The accused has been arrested. The medical examination of both accused and the survivor has been conducted. The accused will be produced before the juvenile court," he said, adding police would take steps to ensure that he was punished.
The incident comes close on the heels of a six-year-old girl being raped by her neighbour in the Salepur area of
Cuttack district. The girl is critical and is currently in the intensive care unit of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
