PMQs LIVE: May fires at Corbyn ‘Not my words - LABOUR’S’ over furious Windrush clash
THERESA May and Jeremy Corbyn will go head to head during this afternoon's Prime Minister's Questions amid the ongoing Windrush scandal and after David Davis vowed Britain will leave the customs union after Brexit.
The prime minister is under growing pressure amid a debate in Government over the treatment of migrants in the wake of the Windrush immigration scandal.
Thousands of Windrush migrants who arrived in the UK after the Second World War have been threatened with deportation amid rule changes.
The Windrush families, named after the Empire Windrush ship which initially brought families over to rebuild post-war Britain, became subject to the ruling in 2012 which aimed to put an end to overstaying.
Meanwhile, Brexit Secretary David Davis said this morning he hopes the first post-Brexit deal will come into force the day after the transition period ends.
He said the Government wanted to conclude negotiating a trade treaty with EU before March 2019 and did not accept suggestions that talks would continue into the transition period.
He said there were six months between the withdrawal agreement being agreed and Brexit and it was not the Government’s intention to allow the trade negotiations to spill over into the transition.
