OKLAHOMA CITY -

The state of Oklahoma will begin laying the framework for growing industrial hemp.

Governor Mary Fallin signed House Bill 2913 Monday creating a pilot program for development.

It allows universities or farmers contracting with universities to cultivate hemp for research and development.

Industrial hemp is distinct from marijuana and can be used for textiles, biodegradable plastic and oils.
