EU, UN to co-host conference on Syria aid

Brussels: The EU and the UN will co-chair a two-day international conference starting here on Tuesday, aiming to pump financial aid for Syrians and garner political support for UN-led intra-Syrian talks. The conference, the second of its kind since 2017, will bring together participants from more than 85 countries and organisations at the ministerial level, as well as those from over 200 non-Governmental organisations, Xinhua news agency cited the EU Council as saying.

Afghan transgender gunned down in Pak

Peshawar: An Afghan transgender was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Monday.

A group of armed men last night raided transgender Janullah alias Sheeno’s house in Swabi district of the province, beat her up and then shot her dead, Dawn quoted Qamar Nasim, an activist associated with charity Trans Action Pakistan, as saying.

Paris attack suspect sentenced to 20 years

Brussles: A Belgian court on Monday found Salah Abdeslam, the last surviving suspect in the Paris attacks, guilty of terrorism-related attempted murder over a shootout with police in Brussels days before his capture in 2016, and sentenced him to 20 years in jail.

3 brothers beheaded in Afghanistan, ISis blamed

Jalalabad: Three brothers have been beheaded in restive eastern Afghanistan, officials said on Monday, blaming the gruesome executions on ISIS group fighters. The men were taken from their home and killed by ISIS on last night in Chaparhar district in Nangarhar province.
