Sea surge warning issued for North Coastal Andhra

The North Coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience intermittent sea surge until 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, resulting in swell waves of about 2 to 2.2 m in height, a rough sea warning issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad said on Tuesday.

It also advised fishermen and coastal population to be alert during this period.

However, Visakhapatnam Joint Collector G. Srijana said that there was nothing to be alarmed and all coastal regions had been been alerted and the district administrations were on the alert mode. However, INCOIS has cautioned fishermen, especially those plying boats along the coast to avoid sailing during this period. It has also suggested that the boats might be anchored at a fair distance from each other to avoid collision and damage and water-based recreational activity along the coast be suspended. Meanwhile, the weathermen at the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam have said that thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places at Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana. Sea conditions are expected to be rough for the next 12 hours in the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, they have said.

Meanwhile, the coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, experienced thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the maximum day temperatures are likely to remain above 40 degrees Celsius in parts of Rayalaseema, the weathermen have said.
