CPI Party Congress scheduled to begin in Kollam tomorrow

What India needs today is a politics of resistance against fascism led by all Left and secular forces, said Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Kanam Rajendran here on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference in connection with the 23rd CPI Party Congress scheduled to begin in Kollam on April 25, he said that secularism was not limited to any particular political outfit and CPI viewed the term in its broader sense.

“The major political opponents of CPI are Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Sangh Parivar, forces that pose a threat to democracy, secularism and Indian constitution,” he said.

Alliance with Congress

On party’s stand on forming an alliance with Congress Party he said, “as of now there is no mention of Congress in our draft political resolution, but you can’t predict what happens afterwards.”

Nine hundred delegates including national executive members and control commission members are expected to participate in the party congress to be held from April 25 to 29.

On April 25, party workers from Kayyur led by Binoy Viswam will bring the flag while the flagpost will arrive from Sooranad matryr’s column.

The flagpost will be installed at C.K Chandrappan Nagar, Kadappakada along with the torch from Vayalar at 5 p.m.

The red flag from Pondicherry, the last venue of the party congress, will be brought to Kollam by party national council member Viswanathan.

Party general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy will hoist the flag announcing the formal commencement of party congress. The registration of delegates will start at 2 p.m.

Central control committee member C.A. Kurian will hoist the flag and party general secretary will inaugurate the delegates’ meet on April 26 at 11 a.m.

Sitaram Yechuri (CPI(M)), Debabrata Biswas (Forward Bloc), Kshiti Goswami (RSP), Provash Ghosh (SUCI) and Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI-ML) will take part in the inaugural meeting.

Delegates’ meet

The delegates’ meet will start at 3 p.m. where the draft political resolution, draft political review report and draft organisational report will be presented.

On April 27 and 28 discussions on the reports will be held.

On April 29 morning new national council and control commission will be elected. It will be followed by a march of over 1 lakh red volunteers at 3 p.m. and a public meeting at 6 p.m. On all the days various art and cultural events will be held at Asramam Maidan.
