Five cars damaged; construction company agrees to pay for cleaning the vehicles

Bitumen spilled out from a damaged drum on the under-construction flyover on 100 Feet road and fell on five cars that were passing by on Monday afternoon. Coimbatore City Traffic Police said the incident took place when a tipper lorry moving backwards hit the drum placed on the flyover.

The contractor constructing the flyover had taken the lorry to off load blue metal to lay road. In the impact of the lorry ramming the drum, the lid burst off pushing out bitumen, which fell on five cars that were passing by on the service road.

The five motorists stopped the car, argued with the workers there and demanded that the cars be cleaned. After the managers of the construction company agreed to pay for cleaning the cars, they left the place. This led to traffic jam and commotion on 100 Feet Road for a while. The police said they had not registered a case as the car owners and the contractor had reached an understanding.
