The Late Late Show did its annual "Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special" Monday night, and the main event was Christina Aguilera joining James Corden in his Range Rover to sing some songs, including "Fighter," "Genie in a Bottle," "Beautiful" and "Dirrty," featuring a guest rap by Melissa McCarthy.
It's not one of the funnier Carpool Karaokes -- if Melissa McCarthy hadn't shown up, it would have been a laugh-free ride -- but what Xtina lacks in comedy chops, she makes up for in sheer vocal ability. The singing lessons she gives Corden and McCarthy mostly just prove that what she does is impossible if you're not her.
And the hottest gossip she dropped -- that Ryan Gosling had a crush on Britney Spears when they were all on The Mickey Mouse Club together in the mid-'90s -- is actually old news; Gosling admitted that they used to play spin the bottle. Still cute, though.
Elsewhere in the Carpool Karaoke special, Corden did "Crosswalk the Musical: The Sound of Music" with a cavalcade of CBS sitcom stars: Mom's Allison Janney and Anna Faris, The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar and Young Sheldon's Iain Armitage.
The Late Late Show with James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37/11:37c on CBS.
(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
