Ramesh Jarkiholi, D.B. Inamdar, among others, file papers

Several major leaders in the district filed their nomination papers for the Assembly elections in Belagavi on Monday.

District in-charge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi was brought in a huge procession to the Returning Officer’s office in Gokak. His younger brother Lakhan Jarkiholi, who earlier wanted to quit the party and jump into electoral politics, was with him.

Mr. Ramesh Jarkiholi reiterated his challenge that he would quit politics if the Congress did not win 10 of 18 seats in the district.

The former Minister and MLA D.B. Inamdar, who had quit the Congress after the party did not include his name in the first list, filed his nomination papers as a Congress nominee from Kittur on Monday. He is said to have withdrawn his resignation after his name was announced in the second list. He is likely to fight his relative Babasaheb Patil who has moved to the JD(S).

In Belagavi North constituency, two-time MLA Feroz Sait filed nomination papers as the Congress nominee in the presence of senior leader Satish Jarkiholi. He faces Anil Benake of the BJP.
