AMBRIDGE — A planned revamp to Merchant Street could see some revisions after several companies submitted construction bids Tuesday morning.
Two contractors submitted bids for the Ambridge project while three electrical companies submitted bids to do the electrical work.
The project will stretch between Fourth and Eighth streets and include replacement of sidewalks and curbs, removal of current utility poles and overhead wiring, and installation of new ornamental street lanterns. Benches, trash cans, bicycle racks, planters, decorative crosswalks, tree pits, trees and landscaping will also be included.
Baiano Construction of Baldwin, Allegheny County, submitted a $1.997 million bid, and W.D. Wright contracting in North Sewickley Township submitted a $2.214 million bid.
Ohio-based All City Electric submitted a $584,000 bid for the electrical contract. Carnegie-based Power Contracting submitted a $669,185 bid and Merit Electrical a $538,620 bid for the electrical work.
"We'll go through the bids and verify the numbers," Kauer said. "Then we'll develop the project within the numbers we have to work with."
The borough budgeted about $2.5 million for the project, Kauer said. The project will be funded by a $1 million bond that the borough obtained and a $1.5 million loan that Beaver County's community development program has applied for against future community development block grants.
The bids will be evaluated by the county's community development program. The contract could be awarded within four to six weeks, county officials said.
