Nizam’s grandson visits photo show

It was a moment of rekindling the memories to Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, one of the grandsons of the seventh Nizam, the last ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad, when he visited an exhibition of rare photographs organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in the Arts College building of Osmania University on Tuesday.

The exhibition, Mosaic, showcased photographs covering rare pictures taken at the time of construction of Arts College, other buildings, Vice-Chancellors who severed the university and Women’s College, Koti, once a British Residency, Mr. Najaf Ali Khan said after visiting the exhibition.

Giving details of certain photographs, he said that it was a fitting tribute to the late Nizam whose vision was to have the best educational institution in the region.

Syed Adnan Salem, a close relative of Nizam, and part of the Heritage Buffs, admitted that it was a rare event to educate the present generation on the historical legacy.

Nawab Shahid Fareedi, first cousin of Wali-ad-Dowla Bahadur(Paigah family), first VC of Osmania University, said it was a moment to cherish viewing the photographs.

He appreciated the Journalism Department and students for putting together rare pictures including a rare coloured photo of Sir Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur Nizam VII, the founder of Osmania University, and invitation card of the opening ceremony of the university. He complimented Prof. K. Stevenson of the Journalism Department, who is also media advisor to the university, for organising the exhibition.
