A Deltona couple tried to sell stolen property online but wound up in jail after the owner of the pilfered items spotted the goods on Facebook and Offer Up, sheriff's investigators said.
Arrested in the case were Ian Way, 27, and his girlfriend, Jessica Ryan, 30, both of Greynolds Street in Deltona, said sheriff's spokeswoman Laura Williams.
Way was charged with five counts of burglary of a conveyance, dealing in stolen property and two counts of grand theft under $5,000. He was being held Tuesday on $40,000 bail, records show.
Ryan was charged with dealing in stolen property and was also being held Tuesday on $5,000.
Both Way and Ryan face potential additional charges as more stolen goods were found at his home, Williams said.
According to Williams, the couple stole thousands of dollars' worth of tools and truck parts from the work box of a truck left Friday night in the driveway of Tryon Avenue by Andrew Koerner.
Koerner discovered the unlocked work box's door ajar on Saturday morning and discovered that multiple items had been taken overnight, Williams said.
Most of the tools belonged to Koerner, but a box with truck parts and some tools, valued at $600, belonged to his employer, Ring Power Corp. of St. Augustine, Williams said.
On Sunday afternoon, Koerner made contact with deputies and told them he had see some of his property for sale on Facebook Marketplace and Offer Up. The person offering the stolen goods was listed as Jessica Ryan, investigators said.
Ryan advertised that an "Impact wrench, impact driver, hammer drill, light charger and 4 batteries must go today!" a sheriff's report shows.
Detectives discovered that Way had also put up stolen property for sale on Offer Up, the report states.
Way agreed to meet with a detective posing as a buyer to sell the air hammer drill and was arrested at a Racetrac gas station on Howland Boulevard in Deltona. Koerner's air hammer was found in Way's vehicle, Williams said.
Detectives went to the couple's home and found his girlfriend, Ryan, 30, who had also posted stolen items online for sale. She denied knowing about the stolen property, Williams said.
Investigators recovered stolen items, including prescription drugs, in the home and are trying to identify the owners, Williams said.
