Casting Couch in Parliament: Renuka Chowdhury says, “My dignity as a woman was taken away, when PM spoke in derogatory way”

Casting couch is in news since a very long time and has become a hot topic for discussion. Celebrities have different opinion on the issue, but Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury today made headlines when she said that casting couch exists in parliament which stunned everyone, and now the politician has compared PM Modi’s Surpanakha remark with casting couch, “Casting couch is taking away privileges from women & use it for your personal benefit or in lieu of any compensation. My dignity as a woman was taken away in Parliament, when PM spoke in derogatory way. How can a PM say that I remind him of Surpanakha?”, says Renuka Chowdhury.

Earlier she said, “It is not just in the film industry. It happens everywhere and it is the bitter truth. Don’t imagine that Parliament is immune or other workplaces are immune to it. It is time that India stood up and said #MeToo”.

Veteran choreographer Saroj Khan defended the practice of casting couch in the film industry. The 69-year-old, who has choreographed more than 2000 songs in her career, further said the ‘tradition’ has been going on for centuries and blaming just Bollywood is unfair.

“This is going on from ‘Baba Adam’s times’, it is not new. Someone or the other always try to take an advantage of a girl. The government officials do it too, then why are we only behind the film industry? It provides livelihood at least,” she said.- Inputs from ANI
