Mercedes has pulled the wraps off a new variant of the A-Class hatchback - the A-Class L Saloon - at Auto China 2018 in Beijing.
While developing the car the German car manufacturer has claimed that a focal point was knee room for rear passengers.
As a result, at 2789 mm, the wheelbase is 60 mm longer than in the hatchback model (2729 mm).
The notchback vehicle measures 4609mm in length, 1796mm in width and 1460 mm tall, which allows boot capacity of 420-litres.
It is the first time a saloon variant of the A-Class, which is now in its fourth generation, has been launched.
It has been designed solely for the Chinese market and is expected to launch in China towards the end of 2018.
A version of the saloon tailored to the needs of customers outside of China is also set to launch towards the end of the year.
The exterior design is similar to the hatchback with very short overhangs at front and rear, drawn-out bonnet, flat headlamps and diamond radiator grille.

There is a choice of Sedan and Sport Sedan versions, with the latter featuring powerdomes on the bonnet.
One cool feature is the exclusive Rose gold paint job, developed for the Chinese market.
Inside the car is the same interior design seen on the A-Class hatchback, including the inclusion of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system which comes with natural speech recognition.
Later down the line a two-litre four-cylinder engine, with a 140kW power output and standard 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission, will become available.
