This is in response to the “‘Palestinian Gandhi’ welcomed with a hail of Israeli bullets,” op-ed by Gulamhusein A. Abba published April 11.

Mr. Abba asks, “Why is Israel not being compelled to vacate its long lasting and brutal occupation…?” He doesn’t mention that Israel unilaterally did vacate Gaza lock stock and barrel in 2005. It uprooted every Israeli building, every business, even every grave!

Brutal? Billions of dollars in aid have poured into Gaza. Contrary to Mr. Abba’s assertions, these are not “peaceful” protests. Armed Hamas terrorists have been dispersed among the demonstrators, cynically endangering innocent women and children, and despite repeated warnings they attempt to breach the border of the sovereign State of Israel.

These so-called “peaceful demonstrators” are armed with rifles and they hurl Molotov cocktails and flaming tires. Israel has warned that it is determined to protect its borders, something every country, including this country, must do.
