Rajay Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu today asserted that his decision to reject impeachment notice against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra was in strict conformity with the provisions of Constitution and Judges Inquiry Act.
Mr Naidu said, the decision to reject the notice was timely and not a hasty one and it came after over a month of due diligence.
The Vice President said, he only did what was expected of him and in the manner, the Chairman of Rajya Sabha was expected to conduct in such matters.
Mr Naidu said, the CJI is the highest judicial functionary of the country and any issue in public domain concerning him requires to be resolved at the earliest following prescribed procedures so as to prevent the atmosphere from being further vitiated.
Mr. Naidu’s observations on the matter came when ten lawyers of the Supreme Court met him this morning to compliment and to discuss the implications of the removal notice and Chairman’s order on the same.
The lawyers said that Mr Naidu’s decision in time has saved the dignity of the office of Chief Justice of India and the apex court.
