Longmont United Hospital has been given a "A" grade for patient safety by the Washington-based Leapfrog Group.

The hospital "was one of 750 awarded an 'A' for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the (country)," according to a LUH news release.

The evaluation system assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

"We are very proud to have received an 'A' safety rating by The Leapfrog Group. This score illustrates the continuous dedication of our associates and physicians to providing the best and safest experience for each patient," said Gerlinde Tynan, LUH chief medical officer, said in a statement. "In keeping with our legacy of providing high quality care, it takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety and this Leapfrog rating demonstrates our commitment to providing clinical excellence and superior patient outcomes through a solid foundation of patient safety."
