The FSW softball team (48-3 overall, 19-1 Suncoast Conference) was ranked No. 1 nationally in the NJCAA Division I Softball Rankings that were released on Tuesday. It's the first time a Buccaneers team has been voted to the nation's top spot in any sports poll.
The NJCAA Division I softball rankings are compiled by the NJCAA National Office in accordance with district predictions submitted by member softball programs. Taking the No. 2 spot in the national poll was in-state foe Chipola (46-1). Temple, two-time defending NJCAA National Champion Butler and Tyler round out the top five.
FSW is one of five teams from the state of Florida ranked in the Top 20 and is the lone Suncoast Conference team represented in the national rankings.
FSW was ranked No. 2 in the final NJCAA Region 8 Softball Coaches' Poll of the 2018 season. The Buccaneers received 161 points to take the No. 2 position. Taking the top spot in the poll was Chipola.
